If your hull or topsides are lightly scratched or faded by UV, a good polish can often bring them back. If the damage goes deeper, or you’d like a new colour scheme, a respray is the answer.
There are many paint systems available for different materials. We mainly use Awlcraft 2000, but we’re happy to use your preferred system as long as it’s suitable for the job. Awlcraft 2000 is a superyacht-quality, two-pack acrylic urethane topside finish with long-lasting gloss and colour retention, available in a wide range of colours. View the colour chart.
Our hull respray process
- Tape up: we tent off the superstructure in polythene and run brown paper around the waterline and toe rail to catch overspray.
- Sand and vapour test: the vapour test checks that the new paint system won’t react with the existing coating, which matters if the previous product is unknown.
- Inspect: after sanding we check for defects and report them to you. Any repairs are made at this stage.
- Prime: four coats of Awlcraft 545 epoxy primer.
- Sand: the primer is sanded and the hull re-taped where needed.
- Clean: a fresh hot-water wash, then three cleans with a chemical hull cleaner.
- Topcoat: four spray coats of Awlcraft 2000 in your chosen colour.
- Boot top and waterlines: we re-tape and refine the lines, sand and clean them, then apply four coats of Awlcraft 2000.
- Clean up: we de-tape, clear the work area and remove the staging so the boat can go back outside.
- Names and graphics: we remove existing names at the start and can supply new ones in many fonts and sizes, applied after the topcoat.

We don’t just spray hulls and superstructures. We also respray masts, like this mast respray on an Oyster 45.
