Maintenance

We offer a full boat detailing and maintenance programme, from a simple wash down to a complete buff and polish. We’ll tailor a year-round plan that keeps your boat looking new and protects the paintwork and gel coat from the elements, so all you have to do is step aboard and enjoy her.

Here are some of the maintenance services we offer.

Full valet

Boat looking a little dull? A full valet gives her a new lease of life. It includes:

  • A steam clean of the hull and superstructure with hot soapy water, then drying off (subject to access)
  • Two non-aggressive compounds on the hull
  • Two coats of wax applied by hand

Teak cleaning

A two-part teak cleaner that brings tired teak back to life.

Wash down

A yearly wash down of the hull and superstructure at lift-out removes the build-up of salt and grime around fixtures and fittings.

Machine buff and polish

A regular buff and polish keeps your boat looking its best, but it’s not as simple as it seems. Every application removes a little gel coat or paint, which over time reduces thickness and shine. We use just the right amount of product for a professional finish, so some boats can go two years between polishes instead of one. The photo below shows the starboard side polished and the port side untouched.

Stainless steel polishing

Polishing stainless, including stanchions, window frames, fixtures and fittings, is one of the most important maintenance jobs. Before we start, we walk round the boat checking for defects such as broken split pins or cracked bottlescrews. Stainless polishing is added to your programme with your agreement.

Carpet and upholstery cleaning

A full steam clean of carpets and soft furnishings to remove ground-in dirt and stains.

Upholstery re-covering

Fancy a new colour scheme? Our trusted subcontractor handles all re-covering and alterations.

Bilges and engine room

Degreasing, removing oil and grey water, and cleaning bilges is messy, smelly work, but we use environmentally friendly products that still do the job properly. Engine room bulkheads, floors and stringers can be re-flowcoated to look like new. We protect your carpets with a hard-wearing cover before we start, and we can replace insulation for the most effective noise reduction.

Covers and canopies

Bird droppings, mould on the edges and stitching, or everyday dirt: we can clean covers on board or send them away for dry cleaning.

Stain removal

We can tackle any stain in gel coat, fibreglass or paintwork. After many years in the business, there isn’t a stain we haven’t seen.

Treadmaster refurbishment

If your Treadmaster non-slip deck covering looks worn, Treadcote paint is designed to restore heavily weathered or stained Treadmaster. It comes in four original Treadmaster colours: blue, fawn, white and grey.

Blasting

We offer blasting at Southsea Marina and, subject to access, at other marinas. There are three abrasive levels, two for hulls and one mainly for keels:

  • Soda Formula Maintenance XL: plain soda with an average crystal size of 250 microns, for heavy cleaning and paint removal in one go without damaging the substrate.
  • Restofine G200 hard abrasive: a fine recycled glass (0.10 to 0.20mm) for precision cleaning, paint and rust removal, leaving a fine profile that’s ideal for repainting.
  • Restofine 25/50 grit hard abrasive: a coarser synthetic abrasive (0.25 to 0.50mm), mainly for keels, for heavier paint removal or where speed matters.

Hull blasting is priced per foot and keel blasting per keel, plus waste disposal. If our machine is out for servicing, our trusted subcontractor can carry out the blast. Call us for current prices and to discuss what you need. And it’s not just hulls: we’ve blasted radar masts too.

Antifoul application

We supply and apply every type of antifoul on the market. We inspect and prepare the hull, apply primer if needed, then the antifoul, before de-taping, cleaning up and doing a final inspection. International Micron is the most common, but we’re happy to source and apply your preferred product. For a longer-lasting option, see Coppercoat.

Anodes

We supply and fit all types of anode: aluminium, magnesium and zinc.

Seacocks

We service and pink test Blakes skin fittings and ball valves, and supply new fittings in bronze, DZR or TruDesign glass-reinforced nylon composite.

Propeller cleaning

We clean propellers using Prop-Clean.
