We carry out keel repairs and replacements regularly, and we’ve seen and solved most of the problems that come up when working with keels.
Our keel removal process
- Build a cradle for the keel (removed on completion)
- Supply a belly cradle so the hull can sit safely without its keel
- Remove the keel bolts and check them for leaks and corrosion
- Lift the boat off the keel (this isn’t always simple and can take time)
- Repair or weld any cracks we find
- Remove all old bedding from the hull landing
- Supply new keel bolts and plates if needed (cost depends on the size required)
- Refit the keel, plates and bolts
- Fill, fair and sand the keel
- Epoxy, prime and antifoul
Examples of our keel work
- Rebedding bilge keels on a Sadler 290
- Sigma 41 grounding damage
- Collision damage on a Sigma 38
- Keel removal on a 36ft Sweden sailing yacht
- Keel damage following a collision
