JWS Marine Services has an excellent reputation for boat fibreglass repair and fabrication. Quality GRP work depends on thorough preparation and good materials, and with more than two decades of experience we produce consistently high-quality results.
We work closely with manufacturers’ representatives to stay up to date with the latest products and processes, so you get high-quality, competitively priced repairs. We don’t only work on boats: we’ve repaired a number of jet skis and even a couple of caravans.
Our repair process
Gel coat shows different shades at different depths, so for a seamless finish the new gel coat has to be colour matched at every level.
Light surface scratches can usually be polished out with a compound, but deeper ones need filling. Where the surrounding gel coat is in good condition, we fill with gel coat paste, which acts as both filler and finish. Cured gel coat is uneven, so the repair is then sanded and polished to blend into the rest of the hull.
Colour matching
Colour matching is the hardest part of any gel coat repair. Even professionals who do it every day find a perfect match difficult, and after a few years in the sun a hull may no longer match its original factory colour. White gel coat is the easiest to match; coloured hulls are more of a challenge.
We keep colour matching until we’re 100% happy with the result. With a wide range of colours, including five shades of white, we’re confident we can match yours.
